UKRAINE: Elektrontrans delivered the first of seven 1 524 mm gauge Elektron trams to Kyiv on November 11. Operator Kyivpastrans placed a 183·75m hryvnia order in July for the trams, which are similar to metre-gauge cars delivered to Lviv last year.

Designated as T5B64, the unidirectional 100% low-floor vehicle is 30 m long and has five sections. The second and fourth sections have two double doors, with single doors on the first and fifth sections. The air-conditioned tram has capacity for 287 passengers.

According to Elektrotrans, 80% of components have come from Ukraine and the remainder from Germany. This includes bogies, which are being supplied by Transtec Vetschau.

On October 30 the Mayor of Zhytomyr said that the city is interested in purchasing one Elektron tram to operate on the city’s single 17·5 km metre-gauge line.
