RUSSIA: UKVZ has delivered the first of 60 Type 71-628 trams which it is to supply for the modernisation of the Taganrog tramway.
The modernisation project is being undertaken by Sinara-City Transport Solutions under a concession agreement signed with the city in May. The 11·8bn rouble programme includes the supply of 60 trams, 45 track-km of track renewals, modernising 80 stops with electronic information boards and CCTV, and rebuilding the depot, substations and control centre.
The initial stage is the modernisation of Route 3 from Zavod Krasny Kotelshchik to Dobrolyubovsky Pereulok, with the first tram having arrived on July 21 and nine more to follow this year.
Phase two covering the rest of the works and delivery of the remaining 50 trams is scheduled to be completed by September 2022.
