USA: The Galveston Island Trolley in Texas has reopened, having been suspended since the infrastructure and heritage-style cars were damaged by Hurricane Ike in September 2008.

The 11 km line with 22 stops opened in 1988 and is operated by Island Transit using four diesel-electric cars supplied by Miner Railcar.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and Federal Transit Administration agreed to fund repairs following the hurricane damage, and in January 2017 Gomaco Trolley Co was awarded a $3·8m contract to repair three of the cars with the installation of new diesel engines, generators electronics, windows and doors.
