CZECH REPUBLIC: Work has begun on a major project to modernise the infrastructure on the 10 km interurban light railway linking the towns of Most and Litvínov with a large petrochemical complex in Ústí nad Labem region, close to the German border.
Intended to reduce journey times and increase comfort, safety and capacity, the project includes track renewals, crossing upgrades and rebuilding the stops to improve accessibility and provide information systems. The work is being undertaken by contractor Chládek & Tintěra, with the KC647m cost being partly covered from EU funds.
The 24-month project is being undertaken in two phases. The first launched on April 1 covers the northern section between Záluží, Chemopetrol and Litvínov, while the second will cover the southern section between Záluží and Most.
