FRANCE: Marseille transport operator RTM has awarded CAF a €57m contract to supply 15 trams, with options for more to support future expansion of the network.
The seven-section low-floor cars from CAF’s Urbos range will be 42·5 m long. They will have a similar styling to the distinctive maritime-inspired Bombardier Transportation vehicles currently operating in the city.
The trams will operate on the three existing lines, and the north and south extensions of T3 which are key priorities in the city’s transport plan.
The Spanish supplier said the order announced on September 15 highlights its commitment to the French market, where it has won contracts to supply trams to Montpellier, Nantes, Besançon and St Etienne. It is now the country’s second largest rolling stock supplier, and this order confirms its position as ‘one of the world market leaders in this sector’.
