CHINA: A tramway in the Nanhai district of Foshan opened on August 18.
The line runs 9·5 km from Sanshanxinchengbei to Leigang with 3·7 km underground and 5·6 km elevated. Leigang provides an interchange with the Guangfo interurban metro line between Guangzhou and Foshan.
CRRC Sifang has supplied a fleet of 16 three-section 35·2 m long bidirectional trams with a capacity of 396 passengers and a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
In January work began on a 4·8 km southeastern extension of the tramway from Sanshanxinchengbei to Linyue Dong.
