NORTH KOREA: Construction of a tram line in the city of Wŏnsan was completed in late November, according to local media reports.
The single track line forming a clockwise loop of around 8·5 km is situated in the resort area of the city, between Wonsan Kalma International Airport and the beaches to the east. The depot is located to the south.
Local media describes the line as ‘narrow gauge’, likely to be 1 000 mm.
The trams are being manufactured by the Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Works, with impressions published by local media showing four-axle, single-car vehicles with three twin-leaf doors, possibly based on or inspired by a ČKD Tatra design.
Wŏnsan also has at least one trolleybus route.
