ROMANIA: The first two of 16 Swing 122Na trams being built for Iași by Pesa have been delivered to the city, with nine more scheduled to arrive this year.
The vehicles have been procured by the Ministry of Regional Development & Public Administration, which placed the €38·5m contract on February 5 2020. The five-section low-floor trams are 30·5 m long and can carry 239 passengers, including 58 seated. They have air-conditioning and a CCTV-based passenger counting systems. The passenger information system can make extermal voice announcements at stops.
‘The purchase of Pesa trams was made with the help of the EU’, explained Mayor Mihai Chirica when the cars arrived on August 2. ‘I want to thank the European Commission, as well as the Polish manufacturer that I visited earlier this year which kept its promise to deliver them as soon as possible’.
