RUSSIA: St Petersburg tram and trolleybus operator Gorelektrotrans has awarded Tyazhpromleasing a 1·14bn rouble contract to supply 11 two-section and two three-section trams by March 2021. A rival offer submitted by Sberbank Leasing was 6m roubles higher.
The 100% low-floor LRVs will be produced by PK TS at its Nevsky Electric Transport Plant. The two-section 71-923M Bogatyr-M design is based on the 71-923, and prototypes have been tested in Chelyabinsk and Cherepovets. More than 300 three-section 71-931M cars are already in service in Moscow and St Petersburg.
The trams will feature fire-resistant aluminium interiors and an infrared passenger counting system said to have an accuracy of at least 98%.
