INNOTRANS: Turkish manufacturer Bozankaya is showing one of its custom designed trams for Timișoara, the first trams to be built new for the Romanian city in 50 years.
They include a battery able to provide power for 70 km of off-wire operation, which the manufacturer says is a record for a tram.
In July 2019 Bozankaya beat Pesa to win a contract to supply Timișoara with 16 trams, with an option for up to 24 more of which five have so far been ordered. Each tram is priced at 11·5m lei.
The five-section fully low-floor unidirectional air-conditioned trams are 30 m long with 48 seats and a capacity of 200 passengers. They have a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
The trams are being built at the manufacturer’s Ankara factory, and make extensive use of Turkish technology.
They began entering regular service this year on Route 1, and deliveries are scheduled to run to October 2023.
‘The future of mobility in times of rising climate change is all about finding state-of-the-art technologies that are not harmful to the environment and improve the lives of citizens’, said Bozankaya Chairman & CEO Aytunç Günay. ‘These are also the core values standing behind developing our high-tech products.’
