UZBEKISTAN: Proposals to return trams to the streets of Toshkent are being developed with the support of Alstom.
The company told Metro Report International that it is ‘actively following’ project development, and working with the Uzbek authorities to share best practice for design and organisation.
A roadmap for assistance was signed by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment & Foreign Trade Jamshid Xodjayev and France’s Minister for Foreign Trade, Economic Attractiveness & French Nationals Abroad Olivier Becht during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to France on November 22.
A route for the tramway has not yet been confirmed.
Trams operated in Toshkent for 115 years until final closure of the network in 2016, when the vehicles were transferred to Samarkand.
