LATVIA: The municipal transport operator in Daugavpils has awarded Daugavpils Locomotive Repair Plant a €7·4m+VAT contract to supply four new fully low-floor four-axle trams by the end of 2023.
The order announced at the end of September is backed by EU funding.
DLRZ was the sole bidder for the contract, which was retendered after the customer initially had doubts as to whether the supplier would be able to meet its technical specifications and deadlines.
The last trams to be series built in Latvia were RVZ-6M2 cars produced by Rīgas Vagonbūves Rūpnīca in 1988.
