UK: Light rail industry association UK Tram and rail research and development organisation FutureRailway have agreed to set up a Light Rail Vehicle Test Fleet to support research and product development.
West Midlands transport authority Centro has loaned the project two of the Ansaldo T69 trams which have been displaced from the Midland Metro by new CAF Urbos 3 vehicles. The Ansaldo cars will be based at the former Long Marston military depot which is used for testing, training and secure rolling stock storage.
Transport for Greater Manchester is providing the fleet with two redundant T68 trams which will be based at the Network Rail test facility at Old Dalby.
