In 1962, the Peloponnessian Railways (SPAP) and independent railways in the northwest of the country were amalgamated with Hellenic State Railways, bringing all the country’s railways under state control. The Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE) was established in 1971 as a limited company owned by the state.
