USA: The Ansaldo Honolulu consortium of Finmeccanica companies Ansaldo STS and AnsaldoBreda has signed a contract with Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation to supply the technology and rolling stock for the Honolulu driverless metro.
The $1∙3bn contract is for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the 32 km Honolulu line with 21 stations. The Ansaldo STS $1∙1bn share of the deal will provide traction power, signalling and the operations control centre, while AnsaldoBreda will the supply the rolling stock for $198m.
Design and construction is expected to take eight years, with the first stretch of track to be operational from 2015 and the rest of the line opened in stages, from 2019 to 2029.
Ansaldo Honolulu was selected as core systems contractor in March 2011.
