THAILAND: Prime Minister Prayuth Cha-o-cha inaugurated an 9·8 km extension of the BTS SkyTrain Sukhumvit (Green) Line from Wat Phra Sri Mahathat to Khu Khot on December 16.
The extension serves stations at Phahon Yothin 59, Sai Yud, Sapahan Mai, Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital, Royal Thai Air Force Museum, Yaek Kor Por Aor and Khu Khot. Free travel is being offered until January 1.
The extension is expected to lead to a near doubling of ridership on the line, and contribute to a reduction in pollution from road traffic.
The Prime Minister also inspected work on the Red Line, which is expected to be completed by March. Passenger carrying trials are expected from July, with full commercial service to start in November.
