RUSSIA: A facial recognition based payment system is to be offered at all Moscow Metro stations by the end of the year, according to Deputy Mayor and Head of the Department of Transport & Road Infrastructure Development Maxim Liksutov.
The Face Pay technology is currently being tested by staff and focus groups at several stations. Biometric data is linked to a bank card, with cameras at turnstiles taking around 1½ sec to identify someone and charge them without them needing a ticket, smart card or mobile device.
Face Pay would not be mandatory for passengers, with Liksutov saying ’what payment method they choose is their right. Our task is to give an opportunity to choose.’
