CHINA: MTR Corp and Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corp have agreed a three-year collaboration framework which aims to enhance the transport operator’s services and customer experience and promote an open innovation and technology ecosystem by making use of innovative technologies and data and through co-investment in tech ventures.
Plans included the establishment of a ‘Living Lab’ within MTR’s real life operating environment to validate ideas for tackling business challenges. The initiative will be launched in Hong Kong, but could be expanded to MTR Corp operations elsewhere.
The Living Lab would provide tech companies with access to MTR Corp’s railway expertise and real-life testing scenarios in an environment conducive to data-sharing. MTR Corp would gain access the innovation and technology industry expertise, ‘ultimately delivering innovation with positive impact’, said HKSTP CEO Albert Wong on August 15.
Chairman of HKSTP Dr Sunny Chai said that ‘I hope this unique collaboration can help our partner companies translate their research ideas into market-ready solutions, further enhance MTR’s operational efficiency and benefit the many citizens who enjoy MTR services every day’.
