SPAIN: Madrid municipality has awarded Azvi-Cotodisa Obras and Servicio-Obras Subterráneas a 22-month, €92m contract to extend metro Line 3 by 2∙5 km from Villaverde Alto to El Casar in Getafe.
El Casar will provide an interchange with the orbital Line 12 Metrosur and RENFE’s Cercanías line C-3, and include a 500-space car park as part of the Aparca+T network of Park & Ride facilities surrounding the capital.
The extension is expected to increase use of El Casar station by around 70% to 9 200 passengers/day. Line 12 will also be better connected to the rest of the metro network; at present its only interchange is with Line 10 at Puerta del Sur.
