RUSSIA: Moscow Metro has worked with VTB bank, Google and Mastercard to enable passengers to use Google Pay on Android devices. Other payment systems are to be added.
A smartphone with the screen turned on needs to be tapped on to the turnstile.
‘We see contactless payment become more and more popular among our passengers’, said Deputy Mayor for Transport Maksim Liksutov. ‘The new service by Google is extremely relevant during a pandemic: you do not have to take off your gloves or mask to enter the passcode or Face ID on your smartphone, just turn on the screen and this will be enough.’
Vadim Izotov, Senior Vice-President of VTB bank, said ‘paying via smartphone is an integral part of everyone’s life. We are glad that co-operation with Google and MasterCard has helped us to realise a service that passengers want.’
Moscow Metro’s ticketing systems accept MIR, Visa and Mastercard bank cards, as well as Google Pay, Samsung Pay, ApplePay, Huawei Pay, MIR Pay, AliPay and UnionPay.
