DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Santo Domingo metro operator OPRET has awarded Alstom a contract to supply a further 10 three-car Metropolis trainsets to increase capacity on Line 1.
The latest batch will be similar to the existing fleet, with enhancements including LED interior lighting, changes to the passenger information system and a revised cab desk design integrated with the other elements of the cab which will include a ‘state-of-the-art’ display unit for the driver.
The trainsets will be able to operate in multiple with each other and with the existing sets on the 14·5 km north-south Line 1, enabling train capacity to be matched to demand.
‘When we deliver the trainsets under this new contract, fully financed by French development agency AFD, OPRET will have a total of 64 Metropolis trains, all produced in Barcelona, operating on lines 1 and 2’, said Iván Moncayo, Managing Director of Alstom in the Dominican Republic.
This will ’expand the transport capacity with more modern trains, while guaranteeing a mass transport service that is safe, reliable and respectful with the environment’.
