INDIA: A consortium of Siemens companies and Alstom Transport India has been awarded a 39-month contract to provide electrical and mechanical systems for Pune metro Line 3.
Siemens will provide project management and turnkey electrification services and signalling, communications and depot equipment with a total value of Rs9bn.
Line 3 is being built by the Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd joint venture of Tata’s TRIL Urban Transport and Siemens Project Ventures under a design, build, finance, operate and transfer contract awarded by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority in September 2019. This was the first contract to be awarded under the New Metro Rail Policy approved by the Indian government in August 2017, which requires an element of private financing to be included in projects seeking central government support
The elevated 1 435 mm gauge Line 3 will run 23·3 km from Hinjewadi Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park to Balewadi and Shivajinagar, serving 23 stations.
‘Pune Metro is a prestigious project, and Siemens is glad to be partnering with the Tatas to jointly develop this project’, said Sunil Mathur, Managing Director & CEO of Siemens Ltd, on December 27. ‘We are confident that the new metro line will play a key role in positively impacting the quality of life of Pune’s citizens.’
