TAIWAN: The cabinet has backed plans to build the Xizhi – Donghu metro line in Taipei, with Premier Su Tseng-chang approving an initial budget of NT$27·9bn for design and construction.
The total cost is estimated at NT$37·7bn, with construction expected to take 9½ years from the future call for tenders.
The line would run 5·5 km from Donghu station on the Wenhu Line to Xizhi railway station in New Taipei, with six stations.
The Xizhi terminus would provide an interchange with the planned Keelung Line, the first section of which was approved in February 2022.
‘Xizhi residents have waited for the approval of the Xizhi-Donghu Line for more than 20 years,’ said New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih.
