SINGAPORE: Metro operator SMRT Trains and Thales have signed a contract to jointly establish of a local rail signalling repair facility.
It will be located at SMRT’s Bishan depot, and is intended to improve the component repair process and increase the long-term reliability and sustainability of circuit boards for the signalling systems used on the North-South and East-West lines.
The two companies will also work together to develop an intelligent rail analytics platform, leveraging condition-monitoring devices, data analytics and cloud computing. This would enable smarter monitoring of signalling systems and support condition-based maintenance to boost reliability while optimising operating costs.
Under this agreement, Thales’s staff will work closely with SMRT Trains’ Integrated Electronic Workshop to set up the repair facility. This will include training and transfer of expertise to enable technicians from SMRT Trains to diagnose and repair faulty components.
The partners have already been collaborating in the use of data analytics, artificial intelligence and other digital technologies to support maintenance and operations on the North-South and East-West lines since April.
