FRANCE: Alstom delivered the first of 14 trams that it is supplying to Avignon on November 29. The journey from Alstom’s La Rochelle factory took three days.
The three-section Citadis X05 Compact is 24 m long and 2 400 mm wide with capacity for 140 passengers. The tram is equipped with four double doors per side and LED lighting, and has a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
In addition to supplying rolling stock, Alstom is part of the consortium undertaking civil works, which also includes TSO, Guintoli, EHTP and Agilis. Alstom and TSO are also supplying trackwork, overhead wires and an electrical substation.
The 5·4 km route from Porte Saint-Roche in the city centre to Saint-Chamand in the southeast is due to open in mid-2019. The end-to-end journey time will be 15 min, with 10 stops served.
In 2013 the city council selected Alstom to supply 24 trams for what was to be a two-line network, but in 2015 it voted to build only one line.
