FRANCE: Alstom has delivered the first of 30 MPL16 trainsets that it is supplying to the Lyon metro. The train is due to enter service on Line B in 2020.
In October 2016 transport authority Sytral awarded Alstom a €140m contract that includes options for up to 18 more trains. The order forms part of Sytral’s Future Metro 2020 programme, which aims to increase the capacity of metro lines A, B and D.
The rubber-tyred trainset is 36 m long with capacity for 325 passengers at 4/m2. Service braking is entirely electrical, rather than a blend of electrical and mechanical, to increase the amount of regenerated power and reduce maintenance requirements.
