CHINA: Chengdu Railway Corp has awarded contracts for the supply of traction equipment and signalling for the first phase of Chengdu metro Line 9, which will be the city’s first driverless metro line. The two contracts are worth a total of €64m.

Line 9 Phase 1 is expected to open in 2020, and will serve 11 stations on a 22nbsp;km route. The fleet of 200 metro cars will have Optonix traction equipment supplied by Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co and Chengdu Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co, with support from Xi’an Alstom Yongji Electric Equipment Co and Alstom’s Charleroi and Tarbes sites.

The second contract has been awarded to Alstom and CASCO and covers the supply of Urbalis CBTC signalling.
