GERMANY: Duisburg transport authority DVG announced on November 29 that it had selected Bombardier Transportation as preferred bidder for a contract to supply 47 trams. The €135m contract is expected to be signed on December 8 following the mandatory standstill period.
A prototype tram is due to enter service by the end of 2019, with series production due to run from 2021 to 2023. Bombardier will provide maintenance at DVG’s workshops over a 24-year term, with an option to extend this to 32 years.
The 70% low-floor trams will be 34 m long and 2 300 mm wide, with capacity for 200 passengers. They will feature tip-up seats and multi-use spaces, as well as a passenger information system and air-conditioning. In addition, they will be equipped with a collision detection system.
