MEXICO: The first of 30 electric multiple-units being built for the Mexico City – Toluca suburban line arrived in the Port of Veracruz on January 19.
CAF is supplying 30 five-car electric multiple-units as part of a consortium including Isolux-Corsán, AZVI and Thales. In late 2014 the Secretariat of Communications & Transport awarded the CAF-led consortium a contract worth €690m to supply rolling stock and electrical and mechanical systems, including ETCS Level 2 signalling.
The 99 m long EMUs will have walkthrough gangways and capacity for 711 passengers. Maximum speed would be 160 km/h, giving an end-to-end journey time of 39 min on the 57·7 km route, compared with around 1½ h by road. Civil works are 20% complete.
