RUSSIA: Three BKM-84500K trams supplied by Belkommunmash and assembled at operator Metroelektrotrans’ workshops entered revenue service on route 5 in Kazan on January 25.
BKM delivered kits for the three-section trams between July and September 2017 under a 161·7m rouble contract signed in late 2016. This includes a guarantee for three years or 300 000 km.
The bidirectional 80% low-floor trams are 28·4 m long and 2 500 mm wide, with three motor bogies. They are equipped with air-conditioning and wi-fi, and have a service life of at least 20 years.
The BKM-84500K features fewer components imported from outside the Eurasian Customs Union compared with the BKM-843, making it more affordable for cities in Russia.
