USA: New York MTA has put a mock-up of a future R211 metro car on public display at 34 St-Hudson Yards station. To be displayed until December 6, the mock-up is being used to gather customer feedback on the proposed design.
In July 2016 New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that MTA would procure 1 025 metro cars. These would operate on the B Division of the Subway, which includes the lettered routes, as well as the Staten Island Railway. Delivery of the first cars is expected to begin in 2020. A supplier has yet to be selected.
The new cars would feature doors 1 475 mm wide, compared with the previous MTA standard width of 1 270 mm. They would also be equipped with digital real-time passenger information displays and brighter lighting. The pilot trainsets would have gangways between the cars for passenger use.
