AUSTRALIA: New South Wales Minister for Transport & Infrastructure Andrew Constance announced shortlisted bidders to build and operate Stage 1 of the Parramatta light rail project on November 22.

Two bidders have been shortlisted for the civil works contract: John Holland, and a joint venture of CPB Contractors and Downer EDI Works.

Three consortia have been shortlisted for the contract to supply rolling stock, the maintenance depot, railway systems, and operations and maintenance. These are:

  • Connecting Parramatta: John Holland, Alstom Transport Australia and Deutsche Bahn.
  • Greater Parramatta: Downer EDI Rail, Keolis Downer, Downer EDI Works, Ansaldo STS Australia and CRRC Changchun Australia.
  • Great River City Light Rail: Transdev Australasia, CAF and Laing O’Rourke.

Transport for NSW expects to award both contracts by the end of 2018. Subject to construction approval from the NSW Minister for Planning, the 12 km route from Westmead to Carlingford could open in 2023.
