TAIWAN: New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu unveiled the first tram for the two lines being built in the Danhai district on November 16. The remaining 14 trams are due to be delivered by August 2017.

The trams are being supplied by the Taiwan Rolling Stock Co joint venture of China Steel Corp, Tang Eng Iron Works, Nippon Sharyo and Sumitomo Corp, with Voith providing design support, and assistance with production and systems integration in Taiwan.

Branded ‘Warrior’, the 34·5 m long five-section tram has capacity for 265 passengers. Maximum speed is 70 km/h, and the steel bodied bidirectional vehicles are equipped with onboard energy storage for catenary-free operation across road junctions.

Two lines are under construction in Danhai, for opening in late 2018. The 8 km, 14-stop partly elevated Green Mountain Line will link Hongshulin on Taipei metro’s Tamsui Line to Kanding. It will share a single depot with the 6 km, nine-stop Blue Ocean Line.
