ESTONIA: The first of 14 trams to be refurbished under a €12m contract awarded last year has returned to Tallinn.
Czech companies Ekova Electric and Cegelec are modernising two Tatra KT4 trams and 12 Tatra KT6T trams which were formed in 2001-07 by inserting a low-floor centre section into KT4 trams. All the trams have now arrived at Ekova’s workshop in Ostrava, where work is taking place.
Modernisation includes installation of Cegelec TV Progress traction equipment. The KT6T trams are receiving traction motors with an increased output of 54 kW and DAKO-CZ M1 brakes. The trams are being repainted in the new TLT livery, which was introduced with the arrival of the CAF Urbos low-floor trams.
