Alaska Airlines has extended its frequent flyer programme benefits to allow air-miles to be redeemed against rail tickets for the Coast Starlight and local trains in Amtrak’s Pacific Northwest region. Mileage is accumulated by flying Alaska or using partner airlines Northwest, TWA and KLM.
While a first class return ticket for the full Los Angeles - Seattle journey on the Coast Starlight needs up to 30000 miles (including optional return journey by air), a more modest 5000 miles gets any return ticket in Washington and Oregon, or to Vancouver.
