UNDER ITS PROJECT to build a 128 km high speed line between Sevilla and the Córdoba – Málaga route at Antequera Santa Ana (RG 5.07 p250), the Andalucía regional government is aiming for civil works to be in progress on all route sections during 2008.
Tenders have been called for the section between Sevilla Santa Justa and San Pablo Airport, to be followed by the 21·4 km Pedrera – Antequera segment. It is intended to invite bids by the end of December, with the aim of starting work during the first quarter of 2008.
Costing a total of €1bn, the Sevilla – Antequera line will connect with a 313 km Antequera – Granada – Almería route being built by the Spanish Ministry of Development. With the award of a €69·3m contract for civil works and tracklaying on the 14·1 km Tocón – Valderrubio section to Comsa and Construcciones Vera, five sections totalling 36·2 km out of the 11 on the 119 km Antequera – Granada portion have now been let.
Once completed, Andalucía's high speed network is expected to cut the Sevilla – Málaga journey time to 55 min and Málaga – Granada to 50 min.
