GERMAN RAILWAY’s Nürnberg - Ingolstadt Neubaustrecke will be the first high-speed line in Europe to be equipped from new with ERTMS/ETCS Level 3 transmission-based train control. On January 4 DB Netz AG announced that DB’s project management subsidiary Planungsgesellschaft Bahnbau Deutsche Einheit had awarded a DM120m contract for electrification, signalling and communications on the 70 km route to Adtranz Fixed Installations (Deutschland).
The contract covers overhead line equipment and power supplies, and the installation of TBTC for 330 km/h operation. All track-train communications will use GSM-R digital radio links, eliminating the need for lineside signals.
Work is due to start later this year for completion in February 2003. Some elements of the work will be subcontracted to other firms including Elpro Bahnstromanlagen GmbH and ABB Energieanlagenbau GmbH of Berlin, a consortium of Spie Enertrans and Adtranz München, and Adtranz Signal.
