Three stations on the northern section of Line 3 of the Athens Metro are to be constructed under a k90m deal signed on March 16 between state-owned Attiko Metro and an Aegek-Impreglio-Alstom consortium. The consortium will supply and install electrical equipment and trackwork at Holargo, Nomismatokopeio and Agia Paraskevi stations on the Ethniki Amyna - Doukissis Plakentias extension of Line 3, which opened in 2004. After engineering works are finished, the group will also be responsible for testing, operations and maintenance of the stations. Included in the plans is a 470-space park-and-ride facility at Nomismatokopeio. Environment Minister George Souflias said that 60 000 people would use the three stations each day as the journey time from Nomismatokopeio to Monastiraki is reduced from 45?min by road to 13?min. Aegek, which holds a 48% stake in the consortium, expects the project to be completed by September 2009.
