NEWYORK Air Brake Corp has received conditional approval from the Association of American Railroads for its EP-60 electronically-controlled pneumatic brake.
The EP-60 is already in service in Canada, where it is used on heavy haul iron ore trains operated by Cartier Railway Co, a subsidiary of Québec Cartier Mining Co.
In service the EP-60 has demonstrated fast brake response times, and improved handling of long and heavy trains through the graduated application and release of the brakes, with simultaneous load-compensated braking on each wagon.
NYABsays the EP-60 can offer significant fuel savings and reduced wheel, shoe and draft gear wear.
