FIVE consortia have submitted prequalification bids to supply electrical & mechanical equipment for the Istanbul metro extension from Taksim to Yenikapi. They include SNC Lavalin of Canada, Adtranz and ABB with Yapi Merkezi, Alstom with Gülermak, Guris and Yüksel, and Gama Endüstrie.
The municipality has received bids from Siemens, Alstom and Bombardier for 65 low-floor trams to operate the Sirkeci - Zeytinburnu street tramway. The air-conditioned cars, 25m long and 2650mm wide, will release 45 Adtranz LRVs for the Aksaray - Yenibosna line.
- Izmir Metropolitan Municipality extended bidding for the second phase of its light rail network from December 18 to January 15. At least 23 firms have registered an interest in building the 3·2 km extension to the University and Bornova and the 4·8 km route from Ocyel to Fahrettin Altay (RG 1.98 p13).
