ECI Telecom has supplied a US$5m Syncom SDH telecommunications network to Singapore MRT. Linking 60 stations with trackside optic fibre cabling, it can transmit information at speeds of up to 400gigabits/sec. It supports SMRT’s telephone network and also carries data and pictures from station CCTV cameras to the control room.
The system incorporates a DAVe digital, audio and video platform which also allows real-time video to be transmitted directly to screens in stations, allowing different advertisements to be broadcast at different locations according to the target market for the product. Additional revenue could also be generated by leasing spare telecommunications capacity on the system to business users or network operators.
