Schlumberger has begun deployment of a new design of ticket-issuing terminal across all RATP’s stations. A pilot installation of 40 machines at key stations on the Paris Métro has proved successful, and so Schlumberger has begun installation at all other stations; when complete, there will be over 1000 machines in service.
The Schlumberger terminal has been designed to accept any payment method, including future smart cards and other electronic technologies. It issues the full range of existing magnetic-stripe tickets; issuing speed has been increased so that it can dispense a 10-ticket carnet in 8s.
Terminals are neworked to a central database, allowing the ticketing structure to be modified quickly for special offers, and giving RATP management ability to monitor ticket sales operations.
