BOMBARDIER is to supply 32 six-car Movia trainsets for Shanghai Metro Line 7 under a contract worth approximately €150m.
The vehicles will be built in conjunction with Bombardier's Chinese joint-venture partner Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles Co Ltd. Assembly will take place at CBRC's facility in Changchun while traction equipment will be supplied by the Bombardier CPC Propulsion System Co from plants in Changzhou and Västerås, Sweden. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2008 for completion in 2009.
Meanwhile, Alstom and its Chinese partner CSR Nanjing Puzhen have received a contract worth €120m to supply 144 Metropolis cars for use on Nanjing Line 2. CSR will manage the manufacturing process, with the first vehicles set for delivery in December 2008. Services on Line 2 are expected to begin the following November.
Westinghouse is also to supply platform screen doors for the line's 19 stations, of which 17 are underground. The company is to install over 1 100 screen doors in total, all of which will be manufactured at Westinghouse's Guangzhou facility.
- Test running on Beijing Line 5 is to commence on June 30 following the completion of engineering work. The 27·6 km north-south line links Songjiazhuang with Taipingzhuang and serves 22 stations.
