USA: Anticipating a new market for high speed passenger trains in North America, on February 18 Siemens Mobility announced it had purchased 8 ha of vacant land alongside its Sacramento light rail vehicle plant to enable expansion should it win contracts as a result of the federal government's $8bn inter-city rail spending spree.
'We applaud the Obama administration's commitment to building America's high speed rail system,' said Oliver Hauck, President of Siemens Mobility in the US. 'Siemens is ready to not only bring its proven high speed train technology to the US market, but also to build the systems right here in the United States.'
