Pasir Ris station on Cross Island Line Phase 1

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has awarded a S$980m contract to a joint venture of Daewoo Engineering & Construction and Dongah Geological Engineering for the design and construction of Pasir Ris interchange station and tunnels for the Cross Island Line Phase 1, as well as alterations to the existing Pasir Ris station on the East-West Line. Works for the CRL Pasir Ris station are expected to start in Q4 2021, with passenger services to commence in 2030.

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit board has appointed Nadine Lee as President & CEO with effect from July 12. Lee was as Chief of Staff at Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and previously deputy chief innovation officer in its Office of Extraordinary Innovation where she led the development of the Vision 2028 10-year strategic plan. ‘Nadine’s deep knowledge and understanding of how growing transportation choices can improve the quality of life for customers aligns perfectly with DART’s longstanding mission’, said David Leininger, DART’s interim President & CEO.

Praha old tram on extension

A 250 m tramway extension at Pankrác in Praha which was commissioned in November 2020 but not subsequently used will be used by Route 19 trams from June 1. Plans are being drawn up for the construction of a further 300 m extension.

The Citymapper app is now using an open data feed developed by Transport for the North to provide access to information about bus, tram and ferry services and disruptions in Greater Manchester, the Liverpool City Region, Sheffield City Region, the Transport North East area and West Yorkshire.

The New York Subway will resume 24 h operation from May 17, to coincide with the lifting of a midnight curfew on food and beverage services. From May 6 2020 the system was closed between 01.00 and 05.00, reducing to 02.00 to 04.00 from February 2021. ‘We reduced Subway service more than a year ago to disinfect our trains and combat the rising tide of Covid cases, and we’re going to restore 24-hour service as New York gets back on the right track’, said Governor Andrew M Cuomo on May 3. ‘This expansion will help working people, businesses and families get back to normal as the city reopens and reimagines itself for a new future.’

Bytemark’s Bridge mobile ticketing capabilities have been added to Transit’s trip planning and real-time information app. ‘Our partnership with Transit allows us to introduce mobile ticketing to an existing audience of riders who might not have been aware the option exists’, said Bytemark CEO Eric Reese. ‘Riders can buy and use a ticket in the same app they’re already using to track their bus. In the end, the goal is to make travel and payments frictionless for riders, and that’s really what this does.’
