Radio technology supplier Hytera has been awarded a US$30m contract to provide TETRA communications for Shenzhen Metro Line 12.
Škoda Transportation has awarded Knorr-Bremse contracts to supply hydraulic braking systems for five low-floor trams ordered by Brno, with an option for another 35. Knorr-Bremse will also supply braking systems for 19 two-car EMUs and 29 three-car commuter EMUs, with an option for another 31.
The last of BART’s 80 C2 cars was withdrawn in August. The San Francisco metro operator said the ‘problem-plagued’ vehicles built between 1995 and 2004 were strategically targeted to be the first of its legacy fleet to be completely decommissioned. Issues included 59849failures and doors coming off their tracks, ‘The cab’s sash windows had this crazy spring mechanism that was supposed to make it easier to raise and lower, but was very difficult to adjust and maintain’, said Dave Hardt, Chief Mechanical Officer for Rolling Stock & Shops. ‘Also, the windshield wiper, when it would rain, it would overtravel off the windshield and land on the side of the car, and not be able to swipe back the other way.’
Samara Metro has awarded Transmashholding’s St Petersburg plant a contract to overhaul five Type 81-717/714 metro cars to extend their lives by a further 15 years. They will receive new electrical equipment, bogies, wheelsets and handrail coatings, and will be fitted with CCTV and dedicated accessible areas for passengers with reduced mobility.
Metro de Madrid has called tenders for the construction of a 2·5 km extension of Line 3 from Villaverde Alto to the expanding suburb of El Casar de Getafe. The project has a budget of €112m; it is envisaged that work will start in January 2022 and take around 24 months.
