The first of five more secondhand Düwag GT8S trams which MPK Kraków has purchased from Düsseldorf arrived in the Polish city on November 24. Two will be used for spare parts and three will undergo modernisation similar to 28 already in operation, gaining a low-floor middle section, air-conditioning and an electronic passenger information system.
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has awarded Woh Hup a S$496 contract for design and construction of Punggol interchange station on Cross Island Line Phase 2. An Obayashi Corp and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (Singapore) JV has been awarded a S$758m contract to design and build a 5 km long 12 m diameter double-track single bore tunnel between Fairways Drive and Sin Ming Walk. A 2 km stretch will pass under the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, where the tunnel will be 70 m below ground level rather than the usual 20 to 30 m. Opening is planned for 2032.
Transport for London has awarded VolkerRail a framework contract for the renewal of embedded track on the London Trams network. The contract announced on December 2 runs for three years with options for five more. It is the third such contract awarded to VolkerRail since 2012, with the contractor having so far replaced more than 6 000 m of track at 32 sites in the Croydon area.
