THE FIRST section of orbital light rail route T6 opened in the Spanish city of Valencia on September 27, comprising a 9·2 km route from Tossal del Rei to Marítim-Serrería. New construction includes a 2·4 km branch with four stations from Tossal del Rei to Primat Reig on Line T4, built at a cost of €26·8m.
T6 then uses the existing light rail route as far as Les Arenes where further new construction takes it to Grau on Line 5 via Mediterrani. Line 5 then takes the new route to its present terminus at Marítim-Serrería. To operate T6, FGV has acquired a fleet of 30 Flexity Outlook 100% low-floor LRVs for T6 from Bombardier for €80m.
Plans call for T6 to be extended to Marxalenes on Line T4 and then to Túria on Line 1. The route would run west and south of the city centre to rejoin T4 near Serrería.
