CANADA: A bogie assembly plant at Sorel-Tracy, northeast of Montréal, was officially opened by Alstom on July 5.
It will produce bogies for 468 rubber-tyred metro cars which Montréal operator STM ordered from a consortium of Bombardier and Alstom in 2010. The contract requires 60% domestic content. Bogie and shock absorber technology is being transferred from Alstom’s Le Creusot site in France. Traction motors will be supplied from Hornell in New York State, and the completed bogies will be delivered to Bombardier’s La Pocatière plant.
‘Beyond this first contract with STM, the Alstom plant in Sorel-Tracy, with its state-of-the-art equipment, will be able to meet the most complex needs of North American public transit corporations’, said Guillaume Mehlman, President of Alstom Transport in North America.
