CHINA: Hangzhou metro Line 8 was opened for revenue service on June 28, serving the Qiantang New Area to the northeast of the city.
The 17·2 km east-west route serves eight stations. It starts from an interchange with the airport branch of Line 1 at Wenhainanlu and serves Gogshang University Yunbin before passing under the River Qiantang via a 2 800 m tunnel to reach Qiaotoubao. Interchange is provided with Line 7 at Qingliulu before the line terminates at Xinwanlu.
The CRRC Hangzhou joint venture of CRRC Nanjing Puzhen and Zhejiang Economic Construction Co has supplied 11 six-car Type A trainsets, which are stabled at a depot at the eastern end of the line. Trains run every 6 min 45 sec at peak periods and every 9 min off-peak, operating at a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
